Cork University Hospital (Irish: ''Ospidéal Ollscoil Chorcaí''), abbreviated as CUH, is the largest university teaching hospital in Ireland and is the only Level 1 trauma center in the country due to the presence of over 40 different medical and surgical specialties on the campus. It is operated by the Health Service Executive. The hospital is located in Wilton in the south-western suburbs of Cork.〔(About CUH-Beginning )〕 CUH officially opened in November 1978, and was known then as Cork Regional Hospital. The hospital primarily treats patients from Cork and Kerry which have a combined population of more than 620,000.
